It&#8217;s no secret that <a href=\"https:\/\/bestjuicytomatoes.com\/why-home-grown-tomatoes-taste-better-than-bought-tomatoes\/\">home-grown tomatoes taste better than store-bought<\/a>; they&#8217;re practically a different fruit. (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.healthline.com\/nutrition\/is-tomato-a-fruit\">Tomatoes are a fruit.<\/a>) And if, like Chateau Cuisine Stupide, your house is filled with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gardena.com\/int\/garden-life\/garden-magazine\/basil-the-royal-herb\/\">royal herb<\/a> fanatics, then there&#8217;s nothing like the aroma of a big bunch of freshly picked basil flooding your kitchen.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">In pasta sauce, on pizza, atop a slice of crusty bread in that bite of heaven called <a href=\"https:\/\/factslegend.org\/11-facts-about-bruschetta\/\">bruschetta<\/a>\u2014wherever it appears, the delicious duo of basil and tomato is the very definition of savory. It&#8217;s why, several years ago, Chef Sin and I went nuts over the oh-so-trendy but oh-so-fabulous creation called <a href=\"https:\/\/cuisinestupide.com\/?p=859\">tomato toast,<\/a> which doesn&#8217;t always include basil but probably should.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">And it&#8217;s why I went searching for the cocktail equivalent of bruschetta. A drink carrying the distinctive acidic herbal sweetness that caresses your nose well before it embraces your palate.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">I found it in the Mariposa.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Created by London bartender Robb Collins for the <a href=\"https:\/\/thecocktaillovers.com\/robb-collins-bacardi-legacy-uk-semi-finalist-5\/\">2015 Bacardi Legacy UK Finals<\/a>, the Mariposa is a masterful combination of savory and sour, with every component complementing and supporting the others. (A glance at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.diffordsguide.com\/cocktails\/search?sort=rating&amp;bartender=1012\">some of the other cocktails<\/a> Collins has created reveals a flair for unusual ingredients. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.diffordsguide.com\/cocktails\/recipe\/4610\/zima-sour\">Bison grass vodka<\/a>, anyone? How about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.diffordsguide.com\/cocktails\/recipe\/4609\/hollywood-blvd\">Dijon mustard<\/a>?)<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">As for the name, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.diffordsguide.com\/cocktails\/recipe\/4608\/mariposa\">Collins says<\/a> the Mariposa was &#8220;inspired by a fictional love story of an American soldier who falls in love with a French Cuban girl called Mariposa during World War II.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Like tomatoes and basil, those two were surely meant to be together.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: left;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cuisinestupide.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/mariposa.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-1487 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/cuisinestupide.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/mariposa-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cuisinestupide.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/mariposa-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/cuisinestupide.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/mariposa-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/cuisinestupide.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/mariposa-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/cuisinestupide.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/mariposa-1536x1152.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/cuisinestupide.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/mariposa.jpg 2000w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: left;\">Mariposa<\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Adapted from Robb Collins, <a href=\"https:\/\/londoncocktailclub.co.uk\/goodge-street\/\">London Cocktail Club, Goodge Street<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px; text-align: left;\">1 fresh cherry tomato, chopped<br \/>\n4 fresh basil leaves<br \/>\n2 ounces white or light rum<br \/>\n1 ounce fresh lemon juice<br \/>\n1 ounce <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stgermain.fr\/us\/en\/\">St\u2013Germain Elderflower Liqueur<\/a><br \/>\n1 teaspoon simple syrup<br \/>\nCherry tomato and basil leaves for garnish<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Muddle tomato in a cocktail shaker. Add basil leaves and muddle some more. Add other ingredients and ice and shake vigorously.
